The Luzerne County Convention Center Authority alongside representatives from Mohegan Sun Pocono and the SMG-management staff at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township today announced a contract extension for the Naming Rights of the Mohegan Sun Arena through January of 2030.
“We are honored to announce a ten-year contract extension with our partners at Mohegan Sun Pocono for the naming rights of the arena,” said Luzerne County Convention Center Authority Chair Ed Harry. “The contract is valued at nearly three million dollars over the course of ten years beginning February of 2020. I’d like to thank Mohegan Sun Pocono for their continued support and commitment to our venue and this area.”

Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are celebrating the start of their 20th season this Fall. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins begin their 20th season as the American Hockey League affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight at Mohegan Sun Arena as they host the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in their first preseason game at 7:05pm. The Penguins are set to open the regular season on Saturday, October 6th against the Springfield Thunderbirds at 7:05pm at the arena.
“As we prepare to begin our 20th season, we’d like to look back on the past nineteen seasons of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hockey and this season will be a celebration of our past,” said Jeff Barrett, President and CEO of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. “Seven hundred forty-six regular season games, one hundred three playoff games and over five and a half million fans have come through these doors for Penguins hockey. I’m proud to have been a part of this team since moving to the area in 1998 and we are excited about the team’s outlook for this season with several returning players including fan favorite and Shavertown native Patrick McGrath.”

Our 20th event season will be one of the most memorable in the venue’s storied history and will feature shows such as Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s 20th Anniversary Tour on November 18th, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Farewell Tour on November 30th and several other concerts and family shows, plus some additional event announcements coming in the very near future.”
The Luzerne County Convention Center Authority along with Mohegan Sun Pocono unveiled a commemorative 20th Anniversary logo for the venue. Mohegan Sun Arena officially opened its doors on November 13th, 1999 for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hockey and hosted Neil Diamond as its first concert in December that year. Since that time, the venue has hosted nearly two thousand five hundred event performances and is planning to welcome its ten millionth fan to the venue over the course of the next year.
